Welcome to Barefoot Central — a community app for Kenton-on-Sea, Bushmans, Boknes and Cannon Rocks. These terms describe how we expect people to use the app and what to do when something goes sideways.
1. What Barefoot Central is
A community-first app. It combines a tourism guide, a local business directory, an events calendar, a civic reporting surface and (in Phase 2) tools for holiday-home owners and their renters. The community council moderates content; the Tourism Office and BRAG are stakeholders, not owners.
2. Who can use it
Anyone can browse the public Tier-0 web surface without signing up. Signed-in features require an account and an agreement to these terms. You must be 18 or older to create an account.
3. Your account, your responsibility
- Keep your sign-in credentials secret. You're responsible for anything done from your account.
- Use accurate information. Misrepresenting your trust tier, your property, or your business is grounds for removal.
- One account per person. Don't create alternates to dodge moderation.
4. Community norms
By using Barefoot Central you agree not to:
- Post unlawful, defamatory, hateful, sexually explicit, or harassing content.
- Post other people's personal information without their consent.
- Misrepresent a business listing you don't own.
- Game ratings or reviews — including soliciting reviews in exchange for value.
- Scrape or republish other people's content from the app for commercial use.
- Submit deliberately false civic reports.
The community council can hide, edit or remove content that breaks these rules. Repeat violations cost you account access.
5. Content you create
You keep ownership of anything you upload. You give Barefoot Central a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, store and serve it within the app — and to show anonymised aggregate stats to BRAG and the Tourism Office. We do not sell your content to third parties.
6. Business listings + reviews
- The Tourism Office's public business listings appear by default. Owners can claim and edit their listing.
- Reviews must be honest, first-hand, and free of personal attacks. We can remove reviews that violate these rules.
- Disputes between owners and reviewers go through the council moderation queue (Sprint 18 onwards).
7. Bookings, payments and the chatbot
When transactional features land (Phase 3+), bookings and payments are contracts between you and the counterparty (owner, business, service provider). Barefoot Central facilitates the transaction; it's not a party to it.
The chatbot can suggest content and prefill actions. It will never complete a booking, post on your behalf or send a message without your explicit confirmation.
8. Tide, weather, and other third-party data
Tide and weather data come from third parties (WorldTides.info and OpenWeatherMap respectively). We cache and display this on a best-effort basis. Don't use the app as your only source for safety-critical decisions on water.
9. Emergency contacts
We try hard to keep emergency contact numbers accurate. They were last verified on 12 May 2026. In a real emergency, dial 10111 (police) or 112 (general emergency) if any number in the app doesn't connect.
10. Liability
Barefoot Central is provided “as is”. We don't guarantee that information is complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose. To the extent allowed by South African law, we aren't liable for losses arising from your use of the app or from another user's content.
11. Closing your account
You can delete your account at any time from in-app settings. See our privacy notice for what happens to your content.
12. Changes to these terms
When we materially change these terms, we'll notify signed-in users in-app and by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by South African law. Disputes go to the competent court in the Eastern Cape.
